1. Move into new apartment.

2. Try to get a good night's sleep.

3. Track down a prolific serial killer who has evaded law enforcement long enough to amass seven victims.

Things are never easy for Apprentice Detective R.D. Clarke. Already suffering from horrific recurring nightmares stemming from his first major case, R.D. finds himself stuck in the middle of a manhunt for a serial killer whose gruesome methodology has earned him a chilling nickname: the Reaper.

When the childhood sweetheart of R.D.'s best friend -- superstar blogger Quentin Gardner -- shows up as the latest victim, the soft-boiled detective (well, actually detective's apprentice) must defy the wishes of his father, legendary detective Jerry Clarke, in an attempt to do what the most decorated law enforcement professionals in the world can't do: bring the Reaper to justice.

With nerves closer to jelly than steel, R.D. digs deep into a case that forces him to confront his deepest fears while venturing into places even the bravest souls would think twice about stepping foot into: seedy bars, morgues, and the most dreaded of them all: the D.M.V.

As our hero chips away at the case, he must come to terms with the fact that all of the evidence seems to be pointing in one direction: toward Quentin Gardner.
