Synopsis

John Bookman—Book to his friends—is a tenured professor at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin.  He rides a Harley and wears jeans and cowboy boots and his hair too long to suit the conservative dean.  He’s thirty-five, handsome and unmarried but seldom without a female companion.  He teaches karate and Con Law, law school vernacular for Constitutional Law.  He is a recognized constitutional law expert, debates senators on political talk shows and reduces them to blithering fools, writes scathing op-eds, and is often mentioned as a possible Supreme Court nominee.  He is famous for taking on lost causes and winning.  Consequently, when he arrives at the law school each Monday morning, hundreds of letters await him, letters from lost causes around the country seeking his help.  Some letters are funny, others are sad, most are hopeless.  But every now and then, one letter captures his attention.  Then, with only his latest law school intern in tow, Professor Bookman takes off on yet another adventure—not in search of ancient artifacts like Indiana Jones, but in search of truth and justice—"or as close thereto as the law allows."  In this first installment of a new series, Book investigates a murder in the world of art and fracking in Marfa, Texas.

Another winner from Gimenez. Keep up the great work. This one should have some sequels as it potentially open ended.

I enjoyed the characters and the way politics was interwoven into the story. The location and the social upheaval added some interesting insights to life in West Texas.

Action and debate - a great read

I found myself feeling bogged down by US Constitutional Law, but I'm so glad I stuck with this book. By the end I loved US Constitutional Law, or at least the discussions in Professor John Bookman's L1 classes! "Book" receives a letter from a former intern, Nathan Jones and heads out to Marfa Texas on his Harley with his latest intern, Nadine Honeywell, on the back to investigate Nathan's claim there is major contamination from fracking by Nathan's client, Billy Bob Barnett. They arrive as Nathan's funeral is about to start. Drama and action are well written and I found myself not wanting to put the book down. I am definitely going to purchase a few more of Mark Gimenez's books. Move over John Grisham. Thank you BookBub for a deal that led me to a new author.

Wild tangents and wild rides

Well written with respect to the classroom but fancifully written about the rest, though it does give pause for thought and consideration regarding certain environmental issues.
