Synopsis

A new Outlander novel — the seventh — from #1 National Bestselling author Diana Gabaldon.

Readers have been waiting with bated breath for the seventh volume in bestselling author Diana Gabaldon’s epic Outlander saga — a masterpiece of historical fiction featuring Jamie and Claire, from one of the genre’s most popular and beloved authors.

Jamie Fraser, erstwhile Jacobite and reluctant rebel, knows three things about the American rebellion: the Americans will win, unlikely as that seems in 1778; being on the winning side is no guarantee of survival; and he’d rather die than face his illegitimate son — a young lieutenant in the British Army — across the barrel of a gun. Fraser’s time-travelling wife, Claire, also knows a couple of things: that the Americans will win, but that the ultimate price of victory is a mystery. What she does believe is that the price won’t include Jamie’s life or happiness — not if she has anything to say.

Claire’s grown daughter Brianna, and her husband, Roger, watch the unfolding of Brianna’s parents’ history — a past that may be sneaking up behind their own family.

Echo to the bone

What's next? I loved each of the series and can only imagine how much research was done. I hope that the series continues with more stories about Claire and Jamie and their ever growing family.

As with all of Diana Gabaldon's books, this one is full of everything that you could wish for in a book. Adventure. Romance. Intrigue. History. Anguish. And so much more!!!!

Brings history alive through fiction

Although a fan of all her books, some are better than others. This one is excellent. Important not to skip any in the series though. Her Lord John Grey ones can be read out of order though. An Echo in the Bone is a combination of richly woven tales running parallel to each other temporally. We're left with a very suspenseful ending. Thankfully her next book has come out now.

Starts a bit slow

I know I should be interested as Canada did win the War of 1812 (grin!). There are lots of threads to manage in this book, it definitely feels like an interim book. A bit like how Peter Jackson manages the middle movies of his Tolkein trilogies. However, I appreciate the rich character development and look forward to June for the next instalment.

This was book 7 of a series I have grown to love. Jamie and Claire are the main characters who we follow through life. She makes us wait a long time between novels but it is worth it. If you ever get a chance to read book 1 The Outlander you will be drawn in. Each book keeps you involved in the lives of all the characters she has introduced. I am waiting anxiously for Book 8 due out in Mar.2014

So far it is more of the same, leaving you with yet another cliffhanger. I enjoy the overall story, but if I read another 'throbbing loins' I think I will either throw up or fall asleep.

My favorite series of books. I have read them about 3 times and am now about to begin again with purchase of Voyager for my Kobo in anticipation of the series coming on TV. This is a series of books that fully captures the mind and senses and draws you deep into the lives of Jamie and Clare

Have read all of the other Jamie/Claire series books and loved them, this one however was very disappointing. The characters were not true to their natures. There is no way Claire would cross the centuries twice and then in this book take someones word for it that her beloved is gone in a shipwreck with no body found. The real Claire would have searched high and low and torn the world apart looking for her beloved Jamie until she either found him or his body. And remarrying, don't even get me started.

As all of Diana's books, I am a great fan. She's an excellent writer and story teller. In this story it was great to read about Brianna, Roger and the children finding the letters from Claire and Jamie. How Jem gets locked in the dam, William Buccleigh travels thru the stones. It was all exciting and nail biting as usual Diana stories! I cannot wait for her next book to become available to KOBO; "Written in my own heart's blood"

I cannot get enough of the Outlander series. Being book number 7, An Echo In The Bone has not disappointed. I am still amazed with Diana Gabaldon's literary talent. I have never read any other author that has her capabilities. She does not just write a book, she weaves an epic. Each book in this series has gotten better and better. It is very rare for me to read a book more than once. I have just finished reading the complete series for the third time and am still very much in love.

Loved the whole series of Diana Gabaldon's Highlander series. Definitely a page turner, her very detailed writing brings Jaime, Claire to life and you can transport yourself to the settings. I am anxiously waiting the last book in the series while I reread the last book. This series will have a permanent home on my bookshelf as I know I will be reading again.
