“There is no writer in the evangelical world that I admire and appreciate more.” Billy Graham Philip Yancey helps reveal what two thousand years of history covered up What happens when a respected Christian journalist decides to put his preconceptions aside and take a long look at the Jesus described in the Gospels? How does the Jesus of the New Testament compare to the “new, rediscovered” Jesus—or even the Jesus we think we know so well? Philip Yancey offers a new and different perspective on the life of Christ and his work—his teachings, his miracles, his death and resurrection—and ultimately, who he was and why he came. From the manger in Bethlehem to the cross in Jerusalem, Yancey presents a complex character who generates questions as well as answers; a disturbing and exhilarating Jesus who wants to radically transform your life and stretch your faith. The Jesus I Never Knew uncovers a Jesus who is brilliant, creative, challenging, fearless, compassionate, unpredictable, and ultimately satisfying. “No one who meets Jesus ever stays the same,” says Yancey. “Jesus has rocked my own preconceptions and has made me ask hard questions about why those of us who bear his name don’t do a better job of following him.”

    The title caught my eyes

I bought this book (hard cover), because of the title. When I started the first few pages, I felt no connection with what was being discussed. The book was so informative for me. Soon enough, I dropped it. Months later, I was led to give it to a friend who is a Muslim. I tried to resist the leading at first but God won. If I read the whole book before, I wouldn't have given it to my friend. However, God knew and He made His way in and through me. For the second time around, I purchased this book (digital copy). This time I felt connected to what is being discussed. I saw the title unfold before my eyes- the Jesus I never knew. This book is very informative about the life of Jesus. It presents different point of views of Jesus' life and openly entertains questions that bend the rational mind of man, as the author tries to seek the truth about Jesus. The kind of questions that produces faith, as it leads us to answers that are beyond our ability to comprehend. This book helped me know Jesus more deeply. One of the things I learned is that God continuously speak about His glory through His creation whether we hear and understand it or not. He is more than willing to reveal Himself to all, not because He wants to boast about Himself but because He loves. But, only those who lost the sense of desire to define Him truly and fully witness the fullness of who He is, for God desires worshippers in spirit and in truth and not researchers.
