A corpse whose palms and soles have been "scalped" is only the first in a series of disturbing clues: an airplane's mysterious crash in the nighttime desert, a bizarre attack on a windmill, a vanishing shipment of cocaine. Sgt. Jim Chee of the Navajo Tribal Police is trapped in the deadly web of a cunningly spun plot driven by Navajo sorcery and white man's greed.

I never tire of reading Hillerman

Tony Hillerman is the one author I never tire of reading and rereading and rereading.... His mysteries are intricately crafted but never stretched. His characters are more than real and believable. One would like to have his protagonists as friends. His admiration, respect and love for the Native American culture is a special draw for me that keeps calling me back. And his painting of the beautiful American southwest is vivid and grand to the extent that the land and weather of this vast open country become another essential character in the plot. I never tire of reading Hillerman and am sure this is not the last.
