    An outstanding series debut!

This, the first book in the Book Collector series, finds Jordan Bingham back in her home town, unemployed & in debt as a result of her ex-boyfriend's duplicitous actions. She is living with her much loved but less than scrupulous uncles and is trying to save money so that she can return to grad school. She needs to find a job & fast. When Jordan gets a chance at a job in her literary field that also includes room & board she snatches at it without considering all of the repercussions. She is thrilled that she is going to be paid to look for rare mystery books & in particular a previously unknown or lost Agatha Christie play. But Jordan's employer, Vera Van Alst, is both feared & hated by most of the town's inhabitants. Jordan realizes after moving into the quaint attic room at the Van Alst mansion that she is going to have to tread carefully to please her boss, avoid threats from other avid book collectors and thwart the resident mean cat. Did Agatha Christie write a previously undiscovered play during her infamous 11 day disappearance in the 1920's? If so, is it still out there waiting to be found? Was Jordan's predecessor in the research/acquisition job killed because of the search? Will Jordan meet a similar fate? Why is Vera so cantankerous and secretive? The plot of this book is engaging & suspenseful with multiple twists. Agatha Christie, my first favourite mystery author, introduced me to the delights of the traditional British mystery story & Victoria Abbott has very successfully utilized this style. She has created an engaging cast of characters and has even made the less than nice Vera, somehow appealing. The setting is atmospheric & the premise engaging. This is an outstanding series debut! I loved the book!
