This short piece by the noted naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace, describes the nineteenth century view of the Birds of Paradise, their habits as known at the time. Taken from Wallaces Numerous trips to the south seas.
Alfred Russel Wallace, OM, FRS (8 January 1823– 7 November 1913) was a British naturalist, explorer, geographer, anthropologist and biologist. He is best known for independently conceiving the theory of evolution by natural selection and co-publishing a paper on the subject with Charles Darwin in 1858
