Beginning in a punk club in the underbelly of San Francisco, Surviving Xcarion is the story of Rheannon Neves, a twenty-five-year-old guitarist with a dope habit and a string of felonies on her record. When a dark nemesis begins to strategically hunt her down in search of a locket left behind by a mother she does not remember, this downtown junkie finds she is no longer the meanest kid on the block. With a little luck and a little logic, she stays one step ahead of Xcarion, meanwhile initiating her own hunt—a hunt for facts. Who are these bad guys? What really happened to her mother? Her only clues are an old blues man gone underground, an address scrawled hastily by her mother twenty years prior, and a locket. Along the way, Rheannon takes responsibility for Alexander, an eight-year-old kid running from the same bad guys. Eventually, Rheannon’s journey drags her not only from the kid, but also from the streets of San Francisco into the Badlands outside of New Tyre—a place that does not exist on any maps. In this post-apocalyptic world, her only ally is Cryx, a war-hardened rebel leader of a race Rheannon has never encountered before. He has secrets of his own—secrets about Alexander, the boy she is now desperate to find. Each complex piece of the puzzle disturbs laws that govern reality and push Rheannon toward the truth about herself, her mother, and the power her locket holds. In the end, Rheannon must make a choice—tie the strings her mother left hanging (be the hero), or be the junkie she already knows how to be.
