After college, Kate Carlton’s journalism fellowship falls through, so she goes back to doing what she did during high school: working for the Lake Texoma Gazette and dodging the paparazzi who follow her mother, a best-selling self-help author.
At the Lake Texoma Gazette, everything is the same. Her desk. Her chair. The Border Collie that leans on her while she edits this week’s fish stories.
Kate believes reporting this year’s crappiethon fishing tournament will be her biggest challenge, but then she’s called to a crime scene. Kate is drawn into solving the town’s first murder in 22 years, and dodging the pap is suddenly the least of her problems.
A woman she doesn't know is dead and her best friend has a gunshot wound to the head. Police think they have the gunman in custody.
The Gazette’s publisher isn’t so sure.
Kate intends to figure out the truth, but she’ll need a little help from her friends, including a couple of fraternity brothers who volunteer for a tiny breaking and entering.
