This first book of the Holding Their Own series, A Story of Survival, is set in the year 2015, when the world is burdened by the second Great Depression. The United States, already weakened by internal strife, becomes the target of an international terror plot. A series of attacks results in thousands of casualties and disables the country's core infrastructure. The combination of economic hardship and the staggering blow of the terror attacks results in a collapse of the government. This is a realistic story of how an average, middle class couple survives the cascading events brought on by international politics, high tech military actions and the eventual downfall of society. All of their survival skills are tested during the action packed expedition in a world that resembles the American West of 200 years past.

Worth Reading, a tad overpriced though

Good premise, kept moving along quickly, stayed up to finish it. Very expensive to get the entire series though!

Good read. Like the authors humor. Needs to tone down on the sexual innuendo though. But a good read

Great book. ..slightly prophetic?

I was very pleasantly surprised at how good this story rolled out. I particularly liked how both the hero and heroine had to step up to help the other one and not as some flash in the pan kind of save. I felt the characters were well developed and since the story shows what would happen should the economy get worse (a direction we may be going in) it was good to see that the main people had to struggle with the answers and receive a lot of help with the background characters. It makes it more realistic in my opinion.

Well thought out, well structured book. If you're into the Survivalist genre you will thoroughly enjoy this. I find this author to be an exceptional story teller and surpasses Rawles in this area. I purchased this with a GC from Christmas and can already tell I'll be surpassing its amount buying the rest of the series... Damn you Mr Nobody!

Stereotypes, cliches, and patriotism

A terrible book full of American flag waving, over simplification, flat characters, and unbelievable situations/occurrences. Since I paid for it, I read it, but I would not recommend it to anyone but the most low brow American gun lover.
