Someone at Stallery Mansion is changing the world. At first, only small details, but the changes get bigger and bigger. It's up to Conrad, a twelve-year-old with terrible karma who's just joined the mansion's staff, to find out who is behind it.

But he's not the only one snooping around. His fellow servant-in-training, Christopher Chant, is charming, confident, and from another world, with a mission of his own -- rescuing his friend, lost in an alternate Stallery Mansion. Can they save the day before Conrad's awful fate catches up with them?

    A Great Children's Fantasy Advventure

Conrad’s Fate is a wonderful adventure fantasy about a boy named Conrad who is trying to get rid of his terrible fate while navigating shifts in reality caused by someone in the manor up the road from his home. To do this, he must rectify something he didn’t do in his past life. His Uncle, insisting this is the only thing he can do to get rid of his curse, teaches him to summon a walker (a magical creature) that will bring him what he needs, and sends him off to work at a manor to find out who is causing his bad karma. There, he meets Christopher, another boy who isn’t what he seems. Together, they engage in unpredictable adventures to humorous effect. Readers will love the antics the boys get up to while trying to solve the mystery of who is causing realities to shift, and looking for Christopher’s missing friend along the way. Strong characterization accompanies a quickly building plot, with believable actions taken by characters in a fantastical situation. The story is engaging and well-written, though the resolution to the climax seems a little hastily cobbled together near the end. Though not exactly a teaching tome, the story will spark the imaginations of readers and delight them with its vibrant world. VERDICT: This book is a good addition to any fantasy collection for young readers.
