Synopsis

It's always been just Kate and her mom-and her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate's going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear her mother won't live past the fall.

Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld-and if she accepts his bargain, he'll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests.

Kate is sure he's crazy-until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she'll become Henry's future bride, and a goddess.

I love Greek myths, especially that of Persephone. Great way to expose teens to the story and the gods without boring them to death. Great read. Will continue with series.

As a fan of Greek mythology, which was first introduced to me by the Percy Jackson series, I was a bit dismayed by the lack of actual Greek myths and stories within this novel, however, Carter's inventive recreation of the characters (Gods/Goddesses) was done phenomenally. I was surprised by her clever interpretation of the story of Hades and Persephone and characters of the entire Greek family members. The unique romance between Kate and Henry won me over as this book made me cry, laugh, and shy as I read of Kate's love for Henry. If you are remotely interested in Greek mythology and a big romance lover, this is the book for you!

I loved this book. Considering that I also have an obsession with Greek mythology this book was perfect. It gives a new and very creative twist to some very old tales and I must say I have read this book so many times I'm able to quote it now. I recommend this book to anyone with I love of Greek myths, romance, and happy endings.

Grecian inspired romance

Imagine your mother was dying of terminal cancer and you had a chance to spend more time with her. You also stayed In a fabulous mansion and have the attention of an incredibly handsome man. Sounds lovely! Charming novel, but much ado about nothing. Not very involving. Think I will pass on the rest of the series.
