Mab has traded Harry’s skills to pay off a debt. And now he must help a group of villains led by Harry’s most despised enemy, Nicodemus Archleone, to break into a high-security vault so that they can then access a vault in the Nevernever.

Problem is, the vault belongs to Hades, Lord of the freaking Underworld. And Dresden is dead certain that Nicodemus has no intention of allowing any of his crew to survive the experience. Dresden’s always been tricky, but he’s going to have to up his backstabbing game to survive this mess.…

Not often you read a book in this genre that includes humour in the story. This author does and I keep reading for that reason. Oh, and the excellent story telling!!!!

Near Perfection.
January 27th, 2015
More of Butcher's wonderful world, and some answers to some growing questions, like what's with those growing headaches, and what Nicky and the Nickleheads have been up to... as well there seems to be some confusion as to what happened back with the Church mice. Last I recall Marcone had hired them...that aside Amazing book.

Fans of Jim Butcher and the Dresden files won't be disapointed. But it's time Murphy ans Charity get some réal story angle other than being support characters for their men.

Skin Game Awesome
June 18th, 2014
I love this book. While Dead Beat was my past favorite Skin Game has surpassed it. The villain is vile, and Harry being forced to work with him was genius. The plot moved fast, the series moved forward, and the foreshadowing for the rest of the series was intriguing. Great stuffs for fans of the series!

A nice variation on the formula
June 16th, 2014
Butcher keeps on trucking with book 15(!) of the series. He avoids the 'level boss' trope, and keeps the characters and series on their feet by his focus on family, even or especially with the bad guys. There's one kind of odd aside about sexuality, which feels a bit like the author is defending his squeamish feelings about gay stuff. It puts me in mind of a straight friend who wants to get it, whose heart is in the right place, and who still struggles. That's fine with me. I also like how Butcher deals with faith. Though the supernatural is perfectly evidenced, the Judeo-Christian god isn't directly. Of course the Grail and other things do lend a lot more weight to that, plus angels and all, but faith matters, and that makes for a good story even for an atheist. In all, the series works because there are serious consequences and people keep changing. And of course nonstop action and a sense of humor.

Is it over already?!
June 11th, 2014
Another fast-paced, exciting Dresden story to make readers ready to believe in anything, especially Harry. As usual, foreshadowing from about 5 books ago rears its head to explain itself. One of the draws of Butcher's books is how fully immersed one can become, and being cognizant of little details that aren't fully dealt with in one book eventually reap rewards. Another draw is the completely fallible and likable Harry Dresden is. There is nothing better than having his friends basically call him a dope and allow him to realise something truly important: about himself and about his case. In what seemed like yet another crazy, impossible task, Dresden fulfills the reader's need for thrilling action and page-turning thoughts that often lead to one laughing out loud. In this book, there is no disappointment, and it is so exciting to see that there is further development afoot, for Harry as the Winter Knight, his family life, his love life, and those others he loves. Oh, and it always helps to have a new ally.... and enemies continuing to prepare for their next battle with him. I can't wait for the next book!

Jim Butcher's best yet
June 6th, 2014
To any fan if the series, it's a great book, I think his best yet. It's a tough plot to right (the pun is intentional) and Mr. Butcher handles it better than I imagined. To people who aren't yet fans, go back and start at Storm Front. I'm convinced you'll thank me later. Oh, and by the way, read slowly. You'll be stuck waiting with the rest of us once you catch up.

Pure craft
June 2nd, 2014
Butcher, who has produced so many amazing stories, has struck gold again. What is totally amazing about Harry Dresden is that no matter what increasingly dangerous situation he finds himself in, and no matter what powers he commands, he is still essentially and intrinsically Human that it lets his completely insane adventures and life seem kinda believable. There are special people that bring these stories to light, and Skin Game is an excellent addition to a strong collection of work. Wizard, indeed.

After the last two books being a bit slower and more on the boring side this book was everything I hand hoped for and more. I couldn't put it down. Each chapter ended in such a way that you just have to keep reading. My only regret is blowing through the book in less than two days.
