Synopsis

The word Rache, written in blood on the wall at the scene of a murder, marked Sherlock Holmes’ introduction to the world.  Published in 1887, A Study in Scarlet presented Holmes as a new type of hero, one who uses razor sharp powers of deduction and minute attention to detail to solve cases too hard for Scotland Yard.  Sherlock Holmes’ brilliant insights and quick wit soon made him a legend.  Due to his immense popularity, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle went back to his most famous character again and again, writing an additional 3 Sherlock Holmes novels and 56 short stories over the next four decades.

This edition is not the original text.  Rather, it is a remastered version that strives to make the classic story more accessible.  While the vast majority of the text is original, hundreds of modifications have been made to make the story an easier, smoother reading experience for modern readers.  We hope these changes will allow a new generation to enjoy the brilliance of Sherlock Holmes.

I really like the books on him investigating when he is just a kid. And this book I have never read before but I think I would love it.

Outstanding

When I first read this book, I already had watched the TV series Sherlock. This gave me a specific image of the taxi driver and Sherlock himself to imagine while reading. Despite that, the book had so much difference from the show (due to its age), that I had to create most of the images. And the details... You will not be wasting your time at all by reading it with some extra attention. The whole mistery keeps you attached to the story, it's a book you just can't stop thinking about even after you've finished it.

A Cleverly Written Tale

Part history lesson and part mystery. It's interesting adding these stories now as et shed good light into the world in which these books were conceived. I enjoys is fun and quick read. It explains very clearly who Sherlock Holmes is and his method more than simply watching his movies or glancing at modern versions of him.
