Synopsis

I lost her.

No, I didn't lose her. I threw her away.

She was my best friend.

I was never supposed to fall in love with her.

I was careless.

She was heartbroken.

I thought I was doing fine. But here she is, years later, forced to work with me, reminding me why I fell in love with her in the first place.

And this time I'm going to do everything in my power to never let her go.

An amazing and romantic second chance story

WOW!!! I am speechless. I have to confess that this is the first book I read by Claire Contreras. And right now I am thinking my lucky stars that I decided to read it because it would have been criminal to miss it. The story is not my usual type as it is missing the suspenseful element I normally crave. But here, I wasn't missing it at all. I was captivated from the very beginning and I fell in love with Mia and Jensen. Mia and Jensen are both amazing characters. Jensen's soul has been shattered by the one person who was supposed to love him and protect him and he only finds solace and understanding the moment he meets Mia. She is his champion and supports him in everything he does. She is his safe haven, his best friend, his love, his only soulmate. And Mia feels the same way about him. He is the one person, she can't imagine her life without. But a cruel joke of faith spins their world out of it's axis and leads them on the road to heartbreak. Jensen find the strength to continue living and at the first chance he got, to fight for his other half. And even before that he was fighting to keep Mia in his life at least as his best friend. But Mia's heart is so badly shattered that she retreats from the world. She is present and gives the impression of living and having fun but the truth is that she is not really feeling. It takes Jensen's determination and stubbornness to make her start living again. Even though she is fighting with everything she's got against it. In the end though, their love and connection wins and they find their happy place together :) As a whole, I have to say that I immensely enjoyed the story. It is heartbreaking and it is intriguing, with a healthy dose of romance and a sprinkle of fun and hotness. Mia and Jensen are amazing characters, which I am pretty sure you will fall in love with :) Their story is simply a must read :) As I haven't read the first book in the series, I will be definitely diving into it but don't worry, the books are standalones so it is not necessary for you to read them in order or both of them if you don't feel like it :) But I can guarantee it is worth it ;) This review was originally posted at Living In Our Own Story Book Blog. I received an ARC of the book in exchange of an honest review.

    Another winner!

I love this author's writing style. Claire's stories pull you in from the first page and the characters become so real, you cannot stop reading until the very end. I loved the main characters in this book and there is a bit of a personal reason here (spoiler alert). This story - with a few minor differences - actually happened to my nephew: he got a girl pregnant, chose not to marry but instead helped raise her with her mother. Both he and the mother of his child married others but together raised a beautiful young woman who will soon be 18 years old. So, a modern approach with a happy ending. I wish Claire would had explored a bit more what happened with Jensen and the mother of his daughter but overall I was VERY happy with how the relationship was explored between Jensen and Mia - and I loved how it all turned out. Brilliant, thank you Claire!
