Synopsis

PACIFIC WAR GHOSTS

Pacific War Ghosts is a personal account of author Tony Maxwell's travels to the South Pacific battlefields of World War II, in search of the fast disappearing relics of that titanic struggle.

Over a number of years, the author visited and photographed the relics of war on the battlefields of Kokoda, Gona, Buna and Sanananda in Papua New Guinea. He travelled to Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands, Kahili and Yamamoto's bomber on Bougainville and the treasure trove of Japanese aircraft wrecks on the island of Ballale in the northern Solomons.

He visited the island battlefield of Betio in the Tarawa chain of islands, photographing the remains of tanks, guns and bunkers still to be seen after that epic battle.

Pacific War Ghosts is profusely illustrated with over 100 black and white photographs and six maps.
