This book is a collection of a journal I kept prior to going overseas to Iraq in 2003, as well as letters I sent home, and stories I had written about my experiences during this time period. I have copied the entries as they appear in my journal. There are errors and incorrect information in the journal, but I kept them in because that was the truth to me at the time. The letters that I have included are also word for word as I sent to my two daughters, Jennie and Christie, as well as the school I was teaching at when I was activated to duty by the California National Guard. I have included detailed stories as well as pictures in the places that they match up. I have changed or omitted names of people to protect their privacy. I was just a fifty-three year old man, close to his twenty- year letter for retirement in the California National Guard, who happened to be sent to Iraq for war. I was not involved with any major combat while I was in Iraq. This is just an average man’s story of living and driving convoys through Iraq in the summer of 2003. I don’t pretend to be brave or have any deep meaning to my experiences.
