Synopsis

A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. And a strange collection of very curious photographs. It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine"s Home for Peculiar Children , an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine"s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children who once lived here-one of whom was his own grandfather-were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a desolate island for good reason. And somehow-impossible though it seems-they may still be alive. A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine"s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

Very interesting

The book wasn't actually what I thought it would be but I was pleasantly surprised. It's more of a young adult book it seems to me but I really enjoyed it and will read the sequel.

I loved this novel. It takes very real feelings, events and locales and enriches them with the sweet exoticism of magic. It was a quick but very enjoyable read.

Unexpected
January 27th, 2015
When I started reading this book I had a hard time getting involved this novel only has 12 chapters and it wasn't until chapter 5-6 that my attention was captivated. It was honestly not what I expected, and draws you to start the sequel book right away. I will say that Ransom Riggs is one of the most detailed with his descriptions, which kept me reading. In the end worth the read. The use of vintage pictures and how he intertwined them into the story was quite spectacularm so skilled.

Believable, excellent fantasy!

I thought I knew what it was going to be about: a grandson discovering the horrors of his grandfather's youth in a terrifying orphanage. I'm glad I was wrong. This is an adult / young adult book. The mystery truly captivated me a all the way through.

Reading this book was almost like stepping into a childhood dream. Normally I prefer realistic fiction but it kept me interested. I still haven't decided if I want to pick up the sequel.

WOW! What a book! Even though it is a short novel -eleven chapters- it is such a fascinating, interesting, jaw-dropping, adventurous book that I could not put down ! The story line is so unique and different it makes you want to continue reading. I cannot wait to purchase the second book to continue and find out what happens. Most definitely worth reading !

Quite a genre binding with a twist
July 2nd, 2014
I was a little surprised that the book was initially intended to be a horror legend and then turned out to be an adventure seeking genre. The chracters are yet to be fully developed which is why I will be so much anticipating the next book. The photos were scary sometimes but some were heart warming. This kind of book might even set a trend for inserting vintage and interesting pics in it.Overall, it is an enjoyable read but I wish it had more horror elements.

Miss Perengrine

Really interesting book where the author went around looking for old antique photos and put them together and wrote a story revolving around them, creating an interesting and sophisticating story that I personally find glorious and has returned my need to read (hehe that rhymed XD)
