Synopsis

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“[A] hold-on-to-your-hat, nail-biting story.”—The Washington Post

“Slaughter’s best yet, by far.”—Lee Child

Will Trent is a brilliant agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Newly in love, he is beginning to put a difficult past behind him. Then a local college student goes missing, and Will is inexplicably kept off the case by his supervisor and mentor, deputy director Amanda Wagner. Will cannot fathom Amanda’s motivation until the two of them literally collide in an abandoned orphanage they have both been drawn to for different reasons. Decades before, when his father was imprisoned for murder, this was Will’s home. It appears that the case that launched Amanda’s career forty years ago has suddenly come back to life—and it involves the long-held mystery of Will’s birth and parentage. Now these two dauntless investigators will each need to face down demons from the past if they are to prevent an even greater terror from being unleashed.

Includes Karin Slaughter’s short story “Snatched” and a preview of the next Will Trent novel, Unseen

Masterful ! Highly ambitious and the author pulls it off brilliantly. Finally Will and Amanda's characters are fleshed out and in what a way. Ms Slaughter's best!!

I love the historical feeling this book has one question why didn't Amanda marry Kenny and adopt Will instead of leaving him to all those atrocities that was done to him? I love Will Trent

This is my first Karin Slaughter. I found the style of writing to be quite different from what I was used to, however I enjoyed the book and will read more of her novels.

I really hated to this one down at night! What a startling and poignant story about two female officers coining into their own on their very first case. Will Trent as aways is a big winner of readers hearts, even as you read about his biological parents - I do wish the lies weren't told but I can see WHY they were said. Very alluring family Trent, thankfully in most ways, left behind. Now Karin the next story should be about who Trent got all those scars!!
