A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.

We Were Liars is a modern, sophisticated suspense novel from New York Times bestselling author, National Book Award finalist, and Printz Award honoree E. Lockhart.
Read it.
And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE.

"An ambitious novel with an engaging voice, a clever plot and some terrific writing."--New York Times Book Review

"No one should be talking about the shocking twist ending. What we can talk about is...[Lockhart's] razor-sharp portrayal of a family for whom keeping up appearances is paramount and, ultimately, tragic."--The Chicago Tribune

    Complex and Suspenseful

I really enjoyed this YA novel - it's a complex and suspenseful story of a wealthy family trying to repress their bad history. Cadence is determined to find out what her family is hiding, but what she discovers has a high price. Well-written and sophisticated, We Were Liars keeps you guessing until the end.

    Sooooo sad.

A great, well written book, but only read it if you want to bawl your eyes out. As in, snot and vomit cry.

Great read, if a little too short

I really enjoyed how well constructed this book was. Every detail, every piece, was placed perfectly, pulling the reader along without fail to the ending. A very relatable, sympathetic narrator and just the right amount of intrigue background this very well-written piece of fiction--and, as other reviewers have noted, the ending is absolutely perfect.

    Lockhart Virgin Seriously Impressed

If I had the option of giving this book more than five stars, I would give it 50. Remarkable. I started and finished this in under six hours; I completely drowned myself in the plot and Ms. Lockhart had an inescapable grasp on me from the first page. Simply an incredible read, and the ending was as impressive as everyone said it was. It was everything as advertised and more. Wow.
