It was the time of the American War of Independence. Francis Jenks was fifteen and lived in England and worked with John Long a gamekeeper. He lived in a cottage with his mother, brother and two sisters. Their peaceful life was shattered when they were evicted from their cottage and the allowance his mother received from the lord of the manor stopped. They rented a small derelict cottage and Francis had to poach rabbits to survive. His life changed completely when he climbed the wall of a large house to steal the apples from the orchard.
Cordelia Thompson was thirteen and even though she lived in a large house and wanted for nothing she was very unhappy. She loved her grandmother, disliked her mother and hated her father and her three brothers. Her boring live changed in the most amazing way when she was sitting in the solarium and looked up when her pet dog growled.
