Are we alone?

We have lived long enough to see the answer present itself. Today is the last day of life as we know it. Tomorrow will be the first day the world will know for sure that life exists outside of planet Earth; not only life, but religion.

Our Solar System begins at our Sun, reaching past the orbiting planets to Pluto (not a planet anymore, poor Pluto), a distance of about 3.7 Billion miles; traveling at the speed of light, the journey would take about 4 hours.

Outside our Solar System lies our Galaxy, the Milky Way. By Galactic standards, the Milky Way is considered to be a large Galaxy, consisting of 300-400 Billion stars, each with their own set of planets. The Milky Way is about 400,000 light years in diameter, meaning that traveling at the speed of light it would take 400,000 years to cross our Galaxy. It is indeed quite large. It’s small, however, when compared to the rest of the Universe. The Universe, it is theorized, is made up of approximately 240 Billion Galaxies. The Universe itself is estimated to be about 156 Billion light years in diameter. Here’s the point, 9 planets in our Solar System, 300 Billion Solar Systems in our Galaxy, 240 Billion Galaxies in the Universe. A little bit of quick math shows that’s approximately 648,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 planets that could contain life in our Universe – and what lies outside our Universe? My question to you, dear reader, is do you really think we are alone? I know it’’s been asked before, but faced with those numbers, what do you think? Let me add to the equation. If you were shown that belief in us not being alone didn’t conflict with your religion, would that affect your decision to believe or not believe?

Life on Earth, the Theory of Evolution tells us, dates back 4,500,000,00 years. During that time, we have apparently evolved, migrated, mutated, and replicated from a single cell organism to today’s present man. Unless you believe, as many do, that we were created in God’s image. Which is more believable is a personal choice each person on Earth makes at some point in their lives. Events happen to everybody to make them question their beliefs from time to time, sometimes even causing them to change their beliefs.

The world is waiting for a definitive experience to answer this question once and for all, without any chance of misinterpretation. An answer without any cultural, ethnical, geographical or age related bias, a final answer leaving a clear and decisive path. This answer has been sought for as long as humans have been self-aware. Some say they’ve found it, some say they don’t need it to support their beliefs, but in reality every person on earth would be affected if this answer were to present itself.
