Annals of the International Geophysical Year, Volume 23: Sunspot Magnetic Fields for the I.G.Y. provides geophysical data analysis and daily maps for observation of sunspot magnetic fields activity. The data and maps are prepared at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory.
This book specifically presents the catalogue of strengths and polarities of the magnetic fields of sunspots observed by six observatories during the IGY. These data are presented in the form of 533 daily maps containing some mean values of the field strengths measured at these observatories. The system of the catalogue is derived in two successive approximations. As the first approximation, simple means (with equal weights) are calculated from the observed field strengths of different observatories. Mount Wilson observations are reduced first for the deviation due to the blending effect. To derive the field strengths in the second approximation, the calculation of systematic errors for each observatory by estimates of deviations from the simple means (with equal weights) and the calculation of weighted factors for each observatory by evaluations of mean dispersion for this observatory are made.
This book is of value to geophysicists.
