The story of public health is as old as the story of life itself. When the first nucleic acids gave rise to the very beginnings of biota, the planet saw the birth of a new endeavor: self-preservation. Understanding life's inherent propensity to preserve itself is quintessential to our understanding of even the most modern aspects of healthcare. If we as global communities are to solve any health-related crisis, we must be aware that at the heart of all our endeavors lie individuals with inherent health-related self-perceptions. Moreover, if we are unable to acquire and use this knowledge as it pertains to our society's youth, which both the World Bank and the United Nations General Assembly define as individuals between the ages of fifteen and twenty-four, then it is those generations that will be haunted in the most direct and undeserving terms. Therefore, I have set out to explore the matter of health perceptions among youth in the hope that greater understanding in our society will lead to a justifiable expectation of excellence in future developments of the global community.
