Ice Rhineguard has been blind since the age of seven. Overcoming heartache and impossible odds he pursued his passion for horses to become a gifted and respected horseman. With his long-time friend Lauren McKenna, and teenage protégé Justin Astrid, he works with troubled and abused horses on their property, Hope Horse, in Queensland, Australia. All live under the maternal guardianship of Maureen Webber, housekeeper, cook and self-appointed grandmother.
Change is coming to Hope Horse. Dahvid Ghiara, a new trainer has been hired. He hides a dark past and brings with him a darker future.
Ice’s lack of vision and his heightened perception gives him a unique insight into the world around him. This awareness comes at a cost. On the one hand it gives him an innate ability to understand nonvisual cues from both man and beast, but on the other it magnifies his sensitivity to effects from beyond the natural world. When supernatural forces are suddenly and mysteriously unleashed, Ice’s life becomes a nightmare as he fights for his sanity and his life against an enemy he can’t see and an evil he can’t comprehend. Evil stalks him, both human and paranormal. What is real and what is not? How can a person tell with no eyes to see?
Hope Horse is a haven for Lauren who endured years of abuse at the hands of her father. She struggles to free herself from the emotional trauma while Ice gives her the security she needs at the expense of his own feelings for the woman he has known since childhood.
Dahvid comes to Hope Horse with his own agenda. He gets his own way no matter the cost. Life is cheap. Dahvid is a predator. Like a cat, he toys with his prey, drawing out the game until its inevitable conclusion.
