Excerpt:
"I'm not gonna lie," Paul said. "It's been a tough two years so far. But whenever I get urges like that, whenever I'm thinking about Tania for example, I just focus my efforts on something productive. Recording the logs, for instance, or trying to learn Spanish. You know, something ... not so tempting."

"I know, I know," Jared said. "But man, it's hard sometimes, you know? I just wish ... I wish there were some way we could ... take care of ourselves and not fuck up the capsule. Like, we need some sort of receptacle or something. Some way of disposing of the stuff without it being a problem."

The two lapsed once again into silence, their half-finished meals forgotten on the table. Paul felt for Jared, he really did. He wished there was some way he could help out his friend, but he didn't know what. Jared's hand was on the table and Paul reached across, grasping his friend's hand in his own. Jared looked at the hands, clasped together, then looked up at Paul.

Paul stared back at Jared, meaning to say something comforting, something encouraging. But when his best friend's baby blue eyes looked into his own he found himself at a loss for words. His gaze lingered over Jared's handsome face, his full lips surrounded by the scruff of a beard he'd been maintaining, his hair thrown about his head in a haphazard way. Paul felt something inside of him yearning for contact, yearning for the closeness of another human being. Instead of saying something, Paul kept a hold of Jared's hand and leaned across the table, planting his lips on Jared's.
