Synopsis

Tales from 70 years in the Australian Bush, the Jungles of Papua New Guinea and the Philippine islands. Papua New Guinea and Asia have forever held a magnetic attraction for Australians and New Zealanders wishing to add some spice and color to their lives.

This Author has done it all, commencing with a wild childhood in western Queensland after WW 2, onto the Mines in the Queensland bush, then on to the Papua New Guinea mines and road construction sites, finally to the Philippines with side shows in the USA and Mexico. In 70 years he has been there and done most of it.

Running afoul of police in four countries including Rascals in Papua New Guinea and Communist Rebels and corrupt military factions in the Philippines, he managed to survive and to retire at 70 years old to the Island of Mindanao in the restive southern Philippines, where he now lives with his wife of 28 years.

This book is a collection of short nonfiction stories of incidents he experienced throughout that long period.

There are no fanciful inclusions or exaggerations here- as it happened, so too was it written.

As Mervyn Penny says:

If you have ever had the desire to go, but not the opportunity, now is your chance.

Come there with me through the pages of ‘A Bamboo Aussie’.

Experience what I experienced, without getting yourself locked up or shot up or threatened with instant execution as I did.

Get the thrills and excitement without the heat, the pain, or the hardships.

Welcome to Asia.
