Synopsis

A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. And a strange collection of very curious photographs. It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine"s Home for Peculiar Children , an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine"s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children who once lived here-one of whom was his own grandfather-were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a desolate island for good reason. And somehow-impossible though it seems-they may still be alive. A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine"s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

Miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children
October 25th, 2015
This book was wonderful. Not at all what I expected, but that is a good thing. I had expected this story to be creepy . It is not creepy. does it have parts that if made into a movie could be scary.....yes.... it is a mystery slash coming of age story that touches on a lot of issues we have in this world todsy, like secret agent lives, dementia,r sheltered rich boy, jealousy, family bond, and love. The author could have went sooo many creepy horrific ways in this story to keep the children,"children". I m glad he did not climb on the ghost,or zombie trains. Looking forward to book two.

Creative genius

I really loved the creativity. I thought that each of the peculiar children were so memorable. When I finally read the sequel almost 2 years after I read this one, I still remembered each of the individual characters. It was really well written.

The book wasn't actually what I thought it would be but I was pleasantly surprised. It's more of a young adult book it seems to me but I really enjoyed it and will read the sequel.

Unexpected
January 27th, 2015
When I started reading this book I had a hard time getting involved this novel only has 12 chapters and it wasn't until chapter 5-6 that my attention was captivated. It was honestly not what I expected, and draws you to start the sequel book right away. I will say that Ransom Riggs is one of the most detailed with his descriptions, which kept me reading. In the end worth the read. The use of vintage pictures and how he intertwined them into the story was quite spectacularm so skilled.

Believable, excellent fantasy!

I thought I knew what it was going to be about: a grandson discovering the horrors of his grandfather's youth in a terrifying orphanage. I'm glad I was wrong. This is an adult / young adult book. The mystery truly captivated me a all the way through.

WOW! What a book! Even though it is a short novel -eleven chapters- it is such a fascinating, interesting, jaw-dropping, adventurous book that I could not put down ! The story line is so unique and different it makes you want to continue reading. I cannot wait to purchase the second book to continue and find out what happens. Most definitely worth reading !

Quite a genre binding with a twist
July 2nd, 2014
I was a little surprised that the book was initially intended to be a horror legend and then turned out to be an adventure seeking genre. The chracters are yet to be fully developed which is why I will be so much anticipating the next book. The photos were scary sometimes but some were heart warming. This kind of book might even set a trend for inserting vintage and interesting pics in it.Overall, it is an enjoyable read but I wish it had more horror elements.

Really interesting book where the author went around looking for old antique photos and put them together and wrote a story revolving around them, creating an interesting and sophisticating story that I personally find glorious and has returned my need to read (hehe that rhymed XD)

This book reminded me of the immensely magical and mystical quality of the world we live in. Things are rarely as ordinary as they seem. I enjoyed the cinematic style. I found the photographic inspiration both original and engaging. A truly enjoyable read.

Great idea, but I was left wanting
December 28th, 2013
The background to how this book came to be is an exemplary idea. However, with every flip of the page I kept wishing it would get better. There is a lot of reflection (from the characters POV) and situational description. The Peculiar Folk aren't all that amazing.

Good and scary story!!
November 14th, 2013
I have never expected this book to be scary. I though it's talking about supernatural children. It turns out each children has their own peculiar skills and they lived in the past. The hollowgist (did I spell it right?) And the wights are scary too especially the photos of the wights. What a story!! Some of the photos in the books are scary and some are 'peculiar' and will make you wonder how those photos were taken. I am looking forward to read the second book which is to be published on 14 Jan 2014, about one and a half month to wait :-(
