Synopsis

Lauren Oliver's powerful New York Times bestselling novel Delirium—the first in a dystopian trilogy—presents a world as terrifying as George Orwell's 1984 and a romance as true as Romeo & Juliet.

In an alternate United States, love has been declared a dangerous disease, and the government forces everyone who reaches eighteen to have a procedure called the Cure. Living with her aunt, uncle, and cousins in Portland, Maine, Lena Haloway is very much looking forward to being cured and living a safe, predictable life. She watched love destroy her mother and isn't about to make the same mistakes.

But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena meets enigmatic Alex, a boy from the Wilds who lives under the government's radar. What will happen if they do the unthinkable and fall in love?

Delirium received starred reviews from Kirkus and School Library Journal, and was named a Best Book of the Year by USA Today, Kirkus, Amazon.com, YALSA, and the Chicago Public Library and was selected as one of NPR's Top 100 Best Ever Teen Novels.

Good enough story.. Alex's character was borderlining a romance novel and not terribly realistic. Gets good at the end! Won't read Pandemonium.

Amazing, Felt like I was in the book!
August 4th, 2015
This book is plain amazing! I was looking for a good dystopian/ post-apocalyptic read and this book surely delivered! I am 20 years old so I didn't want something with to young of characters where I felt to old to be reading. But I felt like I saw Lena's world through her eyes. When I would think back to the book, it felt like I just finished watching a movie. A movie that made my emotions go crazy! I couldn't put it down! I fell in love with Alex and Julian. That quote is true... "I've lived a thousand lives, and loved a thousand loves," for people who read. I feel like this book should be put into my bookshelf of amazing reads! READ IT!

Better the second time
March 28th, 2015
This is the second time reading this series and I still feel like I am reading it for the first time. The love between Lena and Alex is something that I aspire to find one day. I feel like this is a story a lot of young women can relate to in a sense. It is about finding yourself and realizing who you want to be, not who society wants you to be. Again, great read.

I flew through this book. Very descriptive writing and compelling plot and characters. If you don't like cliffhangers, you will definitely be tempted to buy all the books in the series at once. My only complaint with Delirium is that I wish it was longer.

Long winded

I like the concept of of this book, but I had a very hard time getting into it. The last third was the easiest to read through without the need to skim entire chapters. I hope the next book is less wordy.

I chose this book finding nothing else of interest but was pleasantly surprised. Very well written and kept me wanting more when I finished. A definite must read for anyone interested in a dystopian romance with a livable hero/heroine!

Couldn't put it down!

What a wonderful book! So glad it was recommended! I really attached myself to the characters and loved the theme. Everyone can relate to, "wouldn't life be simpler if we didn't have to make such hard decisions?" I laughed, I cried and I completely lost myself. Great read!!

Awesome!
January 7th, 2014
Lauren Oliver did a great job of expressing the feelings of a teen love and even though you are not aloud to even think about boys or talk to them in Lena's world. The first book of the series "Delirium," it kept me wanting to read more and more each time I finished a chapter! I just love the point of view of this book and how Lena is a typical "good girl" but she started going to forbidden parties and falls in love with a boy named Alex!
