Synopsis

An epic adventure that began with one simple question: Why does my foot hurt? Isolated by Mexico's deadly Copper Canyons, the blissful Tarahumara Indians have honed the ability to run hundreds of miles without rest or injury. In a riveting narrative, award-winning journalist and often-injured runner Christopher McDougall sets out to discover their secrets. In the process, he takes his readers from science labs at Harvard to the sun-baked valleys and freezing peaks across North America, where ever-growing numbers of ultra-runners are pushing their bodies to the limit, and, finally, to a climactic race in the Copper Canyons that pits America"s best ultra-runners against the tribe. McDougall"s incredible story will not only engage your mind but inspire your body when you realize that you, indeed all of us, were born to run. From the Trade Paperback edition.

    Got me back into running

This book inspired me to get back into running after a two year hiatus due to frustrating continuous minor injuries. Happy to say I've been back at it now for 5 years and no issues, likely due to less wear on the body due to the switch to forefoot running.

Motivation to run, and run a lot

Wonderful stories full of history and lessons. You walk away - or run - from this book with so much more than when you started reading. This is the second time I've read this book. Even more enjoyable and inspirational the second time. I'm motivated to run for miles and miles for no other reason than that I should, I was born to, and it feels good.

    Inspirational running book

I haven't ditched my standard New Balance runners, but I really enjoyed this book and the story he tells.
