Synopsis

There was a time when the world was sweeter....when the women in Beaufort, North Carolina, wore dresses, and the men donned hats.... Every April, when the wind smells of both the sea and lilacs, Landon Carter remembers 1958, his last year at Beaufort High. Landon had dated a girl or two, and even once sworn that he'd been in love. Certainly the last person he thought he'd fall for was Jamie, the shy, almost ethereal daughter of the town's Baptist minister....Jamie, who was destined to show him the depths of the human heart-and the joy and pain of living. The inspiration for this novel came from Nicholas Sparks's sister: her life and her courage. From the internationally bestselling author Nicholas Sparks, comes his most moving story yet....

    My second favorite Sparks book

Everytime I think of this book, I cry. Like ugly cry. Even though Sparks usually focuses on young/not equal love, this book was very endearing. The characters are soo relatable, you feel like you've known them forever.

    Shock

Love the book but I actually find the movie to be better and usually it's the other way around.

Not nearly as good as the movie

I bought this book after actually seeing the movie for the first time. I had watched it with no anticipation and was expecting nothing more then a poorly-written, poorly-acted religious love story. What I actually got, however, was a very well-made movie that told a moving story without preaching to the viewers. So, naturally, when I discovered the book, I wanted to get the "full story" experience. What a shock this book was, I must say! It is not nearly as good as the film from which this book sourced. The writing is very sub-par, childish and weak. From someone who is constantly surprised and treated with the works of Stephen King, Harlan Ellison, Joe Hill and others, this book came as a major surprise. The biggest surprise to me was in that Nicholas Sparks is apparently a #1 New York Times Bestseller (which doesn't mean a whole lot because EVERYONE is on that list, as the covers of their books proudly boast; I like to stay away from authors who put this un-accomplishment on their jackets). The writing just doesn't sound like that of a best-selling author, even if the author was having a bad or dry spell. It was just a mess, and I had to get the audiobook and speed it up 3x in order to be able to get through this story at all. I tried hard to like it, but I just couldn't. After all's been said and done, I can't convince myself that it was good or lie about it here.

Even tbough I watched the movie and it still is one of my favourite movies, I honestly loved the book more.
