Synopsis

The riveting first-person narrative of a young man who grows to be the most notorious magician his world has ever seen. From his childhood in a troupe of traveling players, to years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime- ridden city, to his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a legendary school of magic, The Name of the Wind is a masterpiece that transports readers into the body and mind of a wizard. It is a high-action novel written with a poet's hand, a powerful coming-of-age story of a magically gifted young man, told through his eyes: to read this book is to be the hero.

Excelent

With this book Rothfuss became my favorite author. The Name of the Wind is a story full of magic and emotions. It will really make you laugh in one page, make you almost cry in despair in the next one and, finally, bring you to tears of joy in the next one. And I am not just saying it, you will remember this when you read this three pages I mentioned. Anyways, IMHO, Rothfuss is a wizard or words, and this book brings us a wonderfull new world with exciting characters and magic that really makes sense.

This is one of those masterworks you simply can't put down. I don't know if it's because it reads like a fireside story, or simply because the main character is someone you should hate but instead feel for.

Wow. Just wow

I love the way this book is written. The story within the story. The back and forth between first person from Kvothe's tale and the third person of the present. I love the style. Leaves you wanting, no, NEEDING more. Rothfuss is wonderful.

Best Books I've Read In Years
January 21st, 2015
I realized recently that I hadn't opened a book in over a year. I bought, Name of the Wind on recommendation of a friend, and was not disappointed! Not only is this the best book I've read in what seems like ages, it's also one of the best fantasy novels I've ever picked up. After my reading hiatus, I can't put this one down!

Wonderful story. The pace is good and the characters interesting. Use of temporal swings adds colour and depth to the story. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Favourite modern fantasy!
September 27th, 2014
One of the most interesting fantasy books I have ever read. Distinguishes it's self from other fantasy books by not so much focusing on the epic quest or the impending end of the world but on characters. Please do your self a favor and read this book, as both a lover of fantasy and literature I cannot recommend it enough.

Fabulous book
September 12th, 2014
I have not read a book of this high quality for several years. I put this first book on the same pedestal as a Lord of The Rings or Elric and his black soul stealing sword. It is an awesome read and recommend it to anyone who loves high fantasy combined with a grim realism that makes it all come live. Anybody could write a fop that magic missiles the dark but this was a woven tapestry of the highest quality.

The Story of a Humble Innkeeper
April 19th, 2014
When the Chronicler first sat down to record the true story of Kvothe, he could hardly have known what he was getting himself into. From his youth as a trouper to his first year at University, Kvothe gets into more trouble than seems humanly possible. And as the tale unfolds, perhaps all those tales are closer to the truth than anyone could have expected.
