Synopsis

On an island off the coast of Maine, a man is found dead. There's no identification on the body. Only the dogged work of a pair of local newspapermen and a graduate student in forensics turns up any clues.

But that's just the beginning of the mystery. Because the more they learn about the man and the baffling circumstances of his death, the less they understand. Was it an impossible crime? Or something stranger still...?

No one but Stephen King could tell this story about the darkness at the heart of the unknown and our compulsion to investigate the unexplained. With echoes of Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon and the work of Graham Greene, one of the world's great storytellers presents a surprising tale that explores the nature of mystery itself...

Watered down "Haven"

If you found this because of Haven, know that it doesn't contain most of the main characters, nor the Troubles. However it's a really interesting read (albeit slow because it's a story within a story). Hard to find IRL.

Underwhelmed

After watching Haven I expected something more fantastic. Not a bad story, just far from favorite status.

I've been waiting to read this book ever since I first saw the television series Haven. You might be disappointed to find out this novella has very little to do with the Syfi tv show, but you won't be disappointed for reading it. All in all it it well worth the read.

Fantastic book! It wasn't what I was expecting, but found myself caught up in the story. It is a true mystery & leaves the reader to come to their own conclusions.

I was a little disappointed in this book since he wrote Joyland with the same company. There was a lot of dialogue that wasn't needed and had nothing to do with the mystery. The mystery itself was left in the with no conclusion which is slightly annoying because I didn't think enough evidence was to us for our theories to run wild.

Not a typical Stephen King tale. Very interesting and leaves you wondering. But, if you are watching Haven and expecting that type of story then you will be disappointed!! Good reading and not really connected to any other stories.

Better than what some critics say

It's a mystery tale that hasn't been solved. There is no neatly wrapped ending. The fun is in the mystery itself that is unexplained.
