Yoga is a set of breathing exercises and postures that are based on a Hindu discipline that promotes spiritual unity with a supreme being. It primarily focuses on the restorative healing of the mind and the soul. Any physical benefits are regarded as mere after-effects of the new strength of the mind and the soul. They were more meditative as compared to the modern yoga system. The yoga we know of today is geared more towards the attainment of physical attributes such as muscle firmness, agility, physical power and being young.
