Synopsis

Now includes an excerpt from the upcoming Four: A Divergent Collection.

One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful.

Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth's much-anticipated second book of the dystopian Divergent series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.

Plods on. Rambling plot that should be exciting...

Rambling plot that should be exciting given the subject of war and dystopian mind control themes but the poor dialogue, the illogical choices of our heroine and the major conflicts that dissolve with little focus or effort. Insurgent? Call it Insubstantial...

Enjoyed it

I never read a book as fast as I read this one. Filled with action but got annoyed with some of the character development but when you are reading about a 16 year old being annoyed with them every now and then makes it more relatable.

Read it to fulfill your completionist impulses...
November 14th, 2014
I read this purely due to the momentum of having finished Divergent, and figured "why not go on to the next book". The spotty plotting of Divergent gets worse in Insurgent. Often, the plot points tended to be confusing, and I'd just go on to the next page rather than try to suss out what had actually happened, because in the end it didn't really matter. Insurgent is a pretty weak book. When characters keep secrets for the sole purpose of keeping the reader guessing, it just upends any feeling that the story is worth concentrating on. Why is Tris so useless, and yet supposedly powerful? It doesn't really make any sense. Also, that's just annoying. And yes, the lack of the importance of gravity in the Divergent world also continues. Why isn't gravity a thing here? Why do children love to jump off buildings and trains? Needless to say, I haven't read Allegiant, and have no desire to.

Insurgent: divergent series book 2
July 9th, 2014
This book was amazing! Tons of action and fighting. The name given is perfect due to all of the simulations and such. I really enjoyed this book. The end was definitely the best part. Although it got a tad boring closer to the end, it got right back up to its excitement and them the book ended. :( I'm so excited to read the last book :)

Poor
June 30th, 2014
Not by any stretch of the imagination is this anywhere near a well written book. The plot is not very good. Things happen that really don't make much sense. I would not recommend reading this at all. There are far, far better worlds to explore.

It was OK, kept me interested but jumped around a lot. Not a lot of building to the story. But good none the less, onto the next one.
